The Meandros Albatros Plus reel is designed for freedive spearfishing and spearfishing, featuring an automatic-release drag system that ensures smooth, controlled line payout.
The construction consists of a plastic shaft and a 316L stainless steel frame, a marine-grade material resistant to saltwater corrosion and ideal for the underwater environment. This combination provides high strength with low weight, which is advantageous for speargun maneuverability during spearfishing.
Design and functionality
The Albatros bird-shaped design of the reel combines rigidity and elegance while maintaining lightness and practicality underwater. The spool features bow-shaped openings that lighten the structure and promote rapid drying of the line, helping prevent deterioration caused by moisture.
The reel is equipped with two spacers positioned around the drum to prevent tangles or accidental line spillover during retrieval or payout, ensuring smooth operation with every movement.
Line attachment system
An angled hole on the spool axle allows the line to be inserted directly, then passed through a second hole in the knob-drag system. This mechanism ensures secure retention of the stop knot, preventing accidental line loss and allowing full use of the spool’s usable capacity while keeping the line free from internal knots.
Compatibility and mounting
Mounting is simple and versatile: the reel is attached with screws to the barrel of wooden spearguns, to trigger guards in either plastic or stainless steel, and also to plastic handles on many commercial speargun models.
